Lekki Conservation Centre: Experience the Longest Canopy Walkway in Africa

When was the last time you did something for the first time? I went on the longest canopy walkway in Africa at Lekki Conservation Centre .

We explored Lekki Conservation Centre, a Nature reserve which is sited on the Lekki Peninsula, Lagos. The Lekki Conservation Centre is endowed with an abundance of plant and animal life, a tree house which is 21metres high, a picnic area with fish ponds, games, barbecue section and the longest canopy walkway in Africa.

The highlight of my trip to Lekki Conservation Centre was the canopy walk which is considered the longest canopy walkway in Africa. So I did this for the first time and it was terrifying yet exciting. This experience is definitely for the brave heart and a must-do in the LCC. The aerial footbridge is 401 meters long, 0.6 meters wide and stands 22.5 metres high at its peak.

As we ascended, with each step it got tougher but then, giving up was not an option since the journey back would be just as terrifying as the journey up.

My greatest take away from this experience was the Power of Focus. I remember a ‘frightened Abie’ say to me, “I wish life would be like the journey through the canopy walk where giving-up would be just as difficult as forging ahead, thereby forcing people to forge ahead always.” And then it struck me that the reason most people give up is that they tend to look at how far they still have to go, instead of how far they have come.

Despite being afraid of heights, I remember telling her not to feed her fears and to keep looking ahead. I kept reminding myself that I had conquered worse situations and could do this. I avoided looking down or looking back, but rather, kept my focus on the journey ahead and ignored the swinging of the walkway caused by motion and the wind.

They say, courage is not the absence of fear but the ability to act in the presence of fear, therefore, I DID IT AFRAID!!!

“You have come this far, don’t give up now.”

Our photos can tell our story.
