Dublin, Ireland is a city rich and full of history. A visit to Dublin is literally a “breath of fresh air”. A walkable city, Dublin offers lots of historic insight to its culture.
We started at the north, where the Phoenix Park is located and at the heart of the park is the Dublin Zoo. It is the largest zoo in Ireland and one of Dublin’s most popular attractions. The Zoo has a number of rare and exotic animals; from the African Savanna where rhinos, giraffes (yeah, real giraffes), lions and tigers and well… hippos call home, to the Kazaringa forest that is home to Asian Elephants.
The zoo has a wide variety of natural habitats for the animals. The White Leopard intrigued my boys, the pink flamingos got them engaged but they loved the Sea Lions the most.
Heading south, the Guinness Storehouse is right in the heart of the city. The building was remodeled to look like a giant pint (the beer glass) of Guinness. A tour of the storehouse gives insight to the history and everything one needs to know about the famous ‘black stuff’ since 1759. At the top of the 7 storey building modeled to look like a large beer glass is the gravity bar, where a complimentary pint of Guinness is given to tourists to relax.
Then we headed towards Grafton and O’Connell streets for my favorite part of the tour… shopping!!!
Worthy of note is the striking Dublin Spire towering over O’Connell Street in all its innovative splendor; which is an amazing sight to behold.
Dublin is sure a city for ones bucket list.
