Christmas season is officially upon us! Trust me, there’s no better time to getaway from all the stress of daily living especially in a city like Lagos, Nigeria.
Now, you may think, “this lady must have a lot of money at her disposal for her to be able to get up and go anywhere”. Well, travel doesn’t have to be expensive. You can start by exploring destinations closer to you.
Consequently, I was inspired to write this post for readers in Nigeria who would love to get away this season and spend N100,000 (one hundred thousand naira) or less . Of course, on N100,000 budget, one has to be frugal.
My advice to you would be to carry enough snacks, so you can spend your money enjoying other activities on your getaway.
First up on my list is Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort, a natural wonder where warm water spring flows side by side with a cold spring located in Ekiti – Southwest Nigeria. Travelling by road from Lagos takes 5 – 6 hours and would cost around N3,000 – N5,000. If you have a car and wish to go on a road trip with friends – just fill up your tank and take turns to drive!
The resort has various accommodation and recreational facilities suitable for family vacation. The deluxe standard room goes for N12,500 per night and the Executive Deluxe for N20,500. Other side attractions in Ekiti State include the Ewi of Ado’s Place, Ado-Ekiti, Fajuyi Memorial Park, Erin Ayonigba Fish River, Erinjiyan-Ekiti, Oroke Ewo War Centre, Ilupeju-Ekiti.
The MicCom Golf Hotels & Resort is Nigeria’s only privately owned golf course with hotel facilities attached to it. Situated in the rustic town of Ada in Osun State, the golf course is set in the serene, picturesque location deep within the lovely and tranquil forests of the South-West. An Executive Suite at this resort cost N20,000 a night.
While you are in Osun State, you can visit the Osun Oshogbo sacred grove, Ooni of Ife palace and the Erin ijesha waterfall.
Interestingly, Osun and Ekiti are 2 hours apart by road. If you plan to visit either ikogosi warm spring resort or Miccom golf hotels in Osun, you could spend a night or two in both locations and maximize your trip.
Interested in going a little further south? Then Ibom Golf Resort in Akwa Ibom State welcomes you with open arms. Akwa Ibom is renowned as one of the cleanest states in Nigeria. This magnificent hotel sits on 174 hectares with a beautiful tropical view of the forest. With a picturesque world-class golf course, you are sure to “pepper” your friends with your breathtaking pictures. At N43,000 per night, you can rent the deluxe room with breathtaking views of the tropical forest
Another destination you can visit this Christmas is the Abraka Turf and Country Club situated in Delta State. The resort includes chalets you can rent from as little as N24,150 per night. You are sure to make lots of friends, as the resort caters to a high-end clientele that includes families, vacation seekers, and campers. You can also enjoy fun activities such as golf, tennis, canoeing, kayaking, polo, horseback riding, fishing, and deep river diving.
Finally, if you love Lagos and would love to stick around, there are amazing resorts – you can visit. They include Epe resort (from N43,000 per night plus breakfast for 2 persons), whispering palms, Jubilee Chalets Epe, Inagbe Grand Resort and Leisure, and La Manga resort.
This is not an exhaustive list. There are many more locations in Nigeria where you can have a fun budget Christmas getaway. So do your research, pack a bag and go have some fun.
