A year ago, I celebrated one year of blogging and shared 6 Lessons I Learned in my First Year of Blogging.
It is often said that success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in day out and I completely agree with this. When I started blogging I knew nothing about blogging, but in 2 years, I have developed myself consistently. Every day is such an awakening as I constantly explore fresh ideas to grow my brand, which makes life so rewarding and fulfilling.
In my second year, I earned my first income as a blogger, not only from the product and services I developed but also from blogging itself. These were not huge figures, however, it encouraged me to believe that my best years are still ahead of me.
Blogging isn’t the easiest thing to do, especially niche blogging (such as travel blogging) where providing original contents is vital to good success. You cannot be an authority in what you do if you are not constantly sharing firsthand experiences and practicing what you preach.
In my second year, I traveled across 3 continents, 5 countries and 12 destinations to bring value to my readers and I enjoyed every bit of my adventure across the globe. There are 31 more destinations I hope to explore by 2019.

Here are some powerful lessons I learned in my second year of blogging-
Content is KING!
To be a successful blogger, you must define your niche and provide valuable contents to your readers. As simple as that sounds, that may be the make or break of your blogging career.
In my first year of blogging, I was under pressure to put up 2 to 3 articles every week and most times, end up publishing dumb articles just to generate page views.
But now, I have learned to focus more on publishing one high-quality content per week and leverage on social media to build an engaging audience. My social media skills have improved remarkably.
Consistency in EVERYTHING!
It is instructive to note that consistency is essential and nothing can be achieved without it. You need a strong reason to motivate you to keep on keeping on, and this should be something that has nothing to do with money.
For me, that strong reason is my passion for travel. My passion for travel inspires me to invest in my blog and consider it a long-term investment rather than a quick-fix to making money.
Now, what are you passionate about?
Having multiple sources of income is vital
In my first year, I started the Wakaholic Adventure, an annual group travel event where we select tourist-friendly destinations and explore together. In 2017, we took our first group trip abroad and explored the Seychelles islands, one of the most beautiful holiday destinations in Africa. Click here to view our photos and find out everything you need to know before visiting Seychelles.
In my second year, I started the Wakaholic Hotel Exploration, a hotel review series where I showcase the finest in the industry. Read my comprehensive Review of Staying at the George Hotel Lagos.
All these products and services are geared towards promoting my brand and developing multiple sources of income from blogging.
My second year was rewarding and fulfilling. I paid little attention to distractions and concentrated on building a brand unique to me. I can’t wait to see what the next year offers.
