It was my first time flying with Ethiopian Airlines. Before I opted to fly with them, I had concerns. I inquired from people who had flown with them and was assured that it was a good airline. And so I took the trip. I travelled from Lagos, Nigeria to Zanzibar, Tanzania.

As a frequent traveller, I’m of the opinion that Ethiopian Airlines is arguably the best African airline. Why? Because they take their business seriously. This would make sense to you when you fly with them and land at Addis Ababa International Airport. They have a large fleet of modern aircraft and have been in existence since 21 December 1945.
Lagos to Addis Ababa on Ethiopian Airlines:
Our flight was on time, we had a modern clean aircraft, the service was good, albeit slow, the cabin crew were pleasant and displayed this throughout the journey, and our flight time from Lagos to Addis Ababa was 5hours. Food wasn’t a disappointment.
We were issued hotel vouchers for our layover in Addis Ababa. You know when Nigerians say “awoof dey run belle”? That was our experience at Caravan Hotel, in Addis Ababa. Choose a different hotel at the customer service counter when given a chance.
Addis Ababa to Zanzibar:
Our flight time to Zanzibar was 2:35hrs. We were served meals and that was appreciated.
Zanzibar to Addis Ababa on Ethiopian Airlines:
On our return flight to Addis Ababa, we made a stop at Kilimanjaro International Airport to fuel the aircraft, drop off passengers, and pick others. The stop was for 1:50hrs (we remained in the aircraft), and the flight time from Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar was 1:46hrs.
The Kilimanjaro stop was truly worth it. The Pilot ensured we got a good view of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa (5,895 meters high) and one of the “Seven Summits” of the world. It was phenomenal.

Addis Ababa to Lagos:
Our flight time from Addis Ababa to Lagos was 4:40hrs. The meal was good and the service satisfactory.
Would I fly with them again? Certainly.
