7 Useful Tips to Avoid Stress While Traveling with Kids

Traveling with kids especially when they are more than two in number and less than 6 years can be very stressful. If you are planning to make a trip with your kids, here are some tips that can help you avoid stress during your journey.

  1. Prepare your mind

As a mother or caretaker, you should know how calm or active each child is. Though you may be great at managing them at home, it may not necessarily be the same outside the house because children sometimes go overboard with numerous activities and their desire to explore new things when outside.

Preparing your mind ahead of time can help you manage any situation that may arise. Be open-minded and ready to accommodate or address any tantrum.

  1. Arrive early at the airport.

When traveling with kids, arriving early at the airport can help eliminate stress. Last minute rush could be awful especially when traveling with 2 or more kids.

You should arrive early, check in and allow enough time to relax before your flight. Also when flying, encourage your young ones to chew or drink something during takeoff and landing to avoid ear pain as this is a possible condition that can make a child be in pain and wear you out with their cries or screams.

You don’t want a crying baby or kid screaming on the plane. A pacifier can help for sucking babies.

  1. Carry their best toys, snack, book or game.

Take toys that don’t take too much space in your luggage. A laptop/tablet with movies and headphones is another great way to keep the kids entertained on the plane.

  1. Avoid connecting flights

When traveling with kids, as much as possible, avoid connecting flights. Take a direct flight if available as this will reduce the stress of having to wait for hours before connecting flight.

When children fall asleep during a layover, it is usually not easy keeping them awake and active, especially if you have a toddler you are carrying too. You don’t want to contend with two sleepy children and your hand luggage.

  1. Travel light

Be sure you have the essentials. Your hand luggage should be light and handy.

Do not carry more than one hand luggage if you have a toddler and another child to look after as well. If the child is old enough to help you with the hand luggage, you can have him or her assist you as long as it’s not too heavy for the child.

  1. Make your reservations before you arrive at your destination

This will eliminate the stress of figuring out where to stay when you arrive at your destination. Some hotels offer pick- up services as well, be sure to explore your options and keep them informed of your itinerary to ensure they pick you up immediately you arrive.

  1. Ask for help

Don’t be afraid to ask for help when necessary. You can make new friends at the airport and have them assist you with anything you need as long as they are willing.
