Wakaholic Adventure 2018 finally kicked off and we are happy to share our story. Every year, we elect ‘bucket list’ destinations, explore these places together, create memories and share our travel experiences. For Wakaholic Adventure 2018, the original plan was a 2-week long trip where we would spend 7 days exploring Venice, Italy, and the remaining 7 days onboard a Mediterranean Cruise that will depart from Venice, with stops at Dubrovnik (Croatia), Kotor (Montenegro), Santorini and Katakolon (Greece). However, this year’s group travel adventure is happening across 2 continents – Europe & Asia.
Group 1: Arrived in Paris- Venice.
Group 2: Arrived in the Maldives.
They say, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. I was denied a Schengen visa renewal to my own event. The reason for denial simply stated: “Justification for the purpose and conditions of intended stay not provided”
This was preposterous because we all applied as a group, had the same travel itinerary, attached bank records with consistent substantial funds, and introduced each member of the group. So when A is granted a visa and B is simply told there is no justification for the purpose stated, it makes me believe that the immigration officer was on a certain level of high.
There is no doubt that visa approval is granted at the discretion of the issuing officer, nevertheless, there are basic requirements that applicants must meet to improve their chances of obtaining a visa. Sometimes, the reason you are refused a visa is not that you didn’t meet these requirements, it may be that they just do not want to give it to you.
While some of the team members were justified, they have gone ahead to explore Europe. However, we the “unjustified” decided to go spend our money where justification is freely given on arrival. And that is the Maldives, which is one of the 35 Destinations I Originally Planned to Visit before I turn 35.
