Christmas and end of year season are always celebrated with fanfare in Nigeria. There are diverse events and activities at this time of the year. These events are organized by individuals, corporate organizations, social groups, religious bodies, state governments, etc. When spending Christmas in Nigeria, you can choose the one that catches your fancy and also travel to different places to partake in the activities.

Here are some fun Christmas activities that you should consider if you are spending Christmas in Nigeria;

Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival:

This is an annual Christmas carol and gospel music concert held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State in mid-December. It features an average attendance of 35,000 people, local, national and prominent International gospel artistes and a Guinness World records mass choir numbering 9,999 singers.

Calabar Carnival:

This is often referred to as “Africa’s largest street party”. It is held annually in Calabar, Cross River State. It kicks off on the first day of December and runs till the last day of the month and climaxes with a colourful grand finale carnival. It features colourful carnival bands and floats, local and international artists, tourists from over the world. Calabar Carnival is a celebration of creativity and culture.

One Lagos Fiesta:

This is an annual new year eve’s event held at the Bar Beach in Lagos. It begins early December and lasts till the first day of January of the new year. It features popular artists and celebrities.


Held annually in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, it is a free 7-day funfair showcasing the culture, fashion, and lifestyle of Rivers state. It usually takes place in the first week of December.

Ogwashi-Uku Carnival:

This is a very colourful three-day annual fiesta held in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta state between 24-26th December. It features carnival floats, cultural dances, music concerts, fashion shows, and other activities.

Ofala festival:

This is a cultural festival that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Nnewi, Anambra state. Held annually for 2 days in December and January. It features masquerades and parades.

Lekki Sun Splash:

This is a music show held at Maiyegun Beach on Lekki Peninsula in Lagos on 25th and 26th December. It features renowned musicians from all music genres.

Igue/Ewere Festival:

This is an annual cultural event held in Benin, Edo state. It takes place in the first half of the month of December. It features acrobatic displays, costumed dancing, and processions to the Oba of Benin palace.

Okumu National Park, Tinapa Resort, Idanre hills, Ibom hotels & golf resort, Yankari Games reserves, Palms shopping complex, etc are some of the places you can visit for relaxation when spending Christmas in Nigeria.
