Have you made new year resolutions yet? Here are 10 Travel Resolutions you should consider in 2017.
- Go somewhere you have never been before
I bet you have seen this quote by Dalai Lama… “Once a year, go some place you have never been before”.
In 2017 you should consider visiting a city, town, country or continent you have never been before.
Collect Moments, Not Things.
- Be more adventurous
When you visit your desired destination, try out something you have never done before. Be as adventurous as you can, conquer your fears and create lifetime memories.
It was my first attempt at hiking despite being afraid of heights. We did the Runyon Canyon Hiking Trail in Hollywood and made it to the highest point in the Park in good time to watch the sunset. It was very difficult for me to make it up and down the steep hill, but guess what? It was a remarkable experience.
- Start saving early
It is still early in the year to make your travel dreams come true. I talked about how to save for your dream trip in this post. Now is the time to put everything into action.
Find ways to add income and remember that travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.
- Tick something off your bucket list
Ever dreamed of going up the Eiffel Tower, skydiving, scuba diving, jet skiing, going on a boat cruise, making it to the Great Wall of China or getting drunk in Las Vegas? 😉 The New Year is like a blank book, the pen is in your hands; you can write a beautiful story.
- Learn a new language
Okay, did you just give me the side eye? 🙂
If you love languages like I do, then you would find this one fascinating. This year, I plan to learn a bit of Chinese. Lol.
Ask me about this later in the year. You too should consider learning one language.
- Envy Not
I see you. 😉 You go through pictures of your friends travelling the world and you feel this gush of envy and sometimes hate them for living the kind of life you only desire. I’m talking to you… yes YOU! 🙂
Now, read this carefully. You can and I repeat, YOU CAN ACHIEVE YOUR TRAVEL GOALS IF ONLY YOU WOULD BE COURAGEOUS AND PLAN.
I plan to visit part of Asia and Australia in the future; I do not have my dates but I’m already making plans to. I just know this is going to happen.
Most times when I start planning for my trips, I usually don’t have the resources to pay for it. But once I nurture my dreams, I gradually find ways to make it a reality by adding income, making sacrifices and cutting down on expenses. This is what you should do too. Understand that sacrifices MUST be made.
This may involve going without the latest iphone, giving up on shopping and eliminating certain excesses to enable you save for your desired trip.
This year, part of my travel resolution is to show you how to travel on a budget. I will share real life experiences and practical tips to help you save and travel as much as you want.
It’s time to stop envying your friends who travel often. You too can travel and teach others how to.
- Try solo travelling
Have you traveled solo before? 2017 is a good year to do something for the first time. If you are still afraid of travelling solo, then you are yet to break out of your comfort zones.
I recommend that everyone tries solo travelling atleast once in their lifetime. The benefits far outweigh the negatives. Most of my travels are done solo and I’ve had no regrets so far.
Were there moments when I felt bored and home sick? Yes!
Do I feel nervous sometimes? Absolutely!
Nevertheless, such feelings are usually temporary. I have connected with some amazing friends on my solo trips and have created some of the best memories of my life.
I was never going to see the world if I waited for someone to go with me.

- Change the way you travel
Are you the type of person who travels to London to stay with family members or friends, then spend your days and nights visiting shopping malls without spending time to explore hidden activities in the city?
2017 is a time to do things differently. Travel like a local, ditch taxis, take the bus and metro, walk short distances, eat street food, interact with locals and learn more about your destination.
Enjoy each moment, travel for the fun of it.
- Make new friends
I have made dozens of friends while travelling. These are people our paths would never have crossed if I never traveled. Travel enlightens and educates us; it makes us less judgmental and helps us appreciate people and their culture.
I never shy away from striking up a conversation with a stranger. As a matter of fact, that is how I make most of my friends. And when you are a genuinely happy person, it’s not difficult for others to see it too.
People want to be around people who make them feel good.
