4 Powerful Lessons Learned In 2020

What a time to be alive. The year 2020 has been quite awakening. I had the time to slow down to reflect on my own journey, reviewed my short/long term goals, enjoyed my own company, showed love and compassion & equally received the same.

I am particularly grateful to be here and also thankful for the great lessons the year brought. I believe you also learned some lessons this year, particularly in difficult times.

Here are some of the important lessons learned in 2020;

1.  Acknowledge the reality of fear while living a life free of its burdens:

“Fear is a manipulative emotion that can trick us into living a boring life.”

― Donald Miller

Some of the things we fear never happen. And even when they do, it is our reaction and attitude to it that matters.

Fear is an emotion, let it come and go. We must learn to experience them without dwelling on them. As long as you live, you will encounter situations that will make you uncomfortable, afraid, pained, and disappointed. But you must acknowledge the reality of fear while living a life free of its burdens. Trust me, it is a lot easier than living in fear.

Another thing I have learned is to reduce the significance of negative people in my everyday life. People who amplify problems and offer no solutions. They may not be bad people, they may even be your friends/family. You should acknowledge that not everyone would understand your vision and goals the way you do, therefore negative people may ignorantly attempt to put on you, the same limitations that they place on themselves without understanding your drive/passion. You should acknowledge their opinions but fiercely protect yourself from them at such times. Protect the energy that you work so hard to preserve.

Do it afraid, but do it without these voices reminding you that you can’t. You need all the positive energy to live the life you love.

2. Friends are family we make for ourselves:

One of the greatest life lessons learned during the restriction of movement to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus is the value of great connections. The people we surround ourselves with are the biggest influence on our behavior, attitudes & results.

At the end of the day, it isn’t just about the temporary pleasure we derive from the material things we acquire. It is more fulfilling and rewarding when we know that we have the right people in our little corner. The world is full of good people, if you cannot find one, be one.

Be intentional. Surround yourself with people who are good for your mental wellbeing.

3. Health is Wealth:

In 2020, I learned the importance of prioritizing my health. Health is the greatest gift. This is something we often neglect. The year 2020 taught me to constantly make healthy choices that would improve my general wellbeing.

Take care of your physical body, it is where you live in.

4. We only get this one chance:

It is up to us to be as successful as we want to be. We all have this one life where we can do everything we’ll ever do. We must therefore live it happy.

Scientists Say Traveling Makes Us Much Happier Than Any Material Wealth

What does happiness mean to you? Moments when we laugh uncontrollably, love deeply, learn something new, show kindness to one another, travel the world, and watch the sunset on the other side of the world. Be authentic, live simply, walk humbly, surround yourself with winners, love genuinely, live your best life.

There you have – some of the important lessons learned in 2020. It is indeed one of the most profound experiences of my life & I pray that God will continue to keep us all in health and love.

Here is wishing us a better 2021.
