There is a great thrill in finally taking your first international trip. Let’s walk you through some tips to ensure you have an amazing first trip!
1. Prepare Yourself Mentally
So, you’ve picked your dream destination, you’ve booked transportation and accommodation… what next?
Go online and do your research on the things you’d like to do and places you can visit at your destination. Read reviews written by others about their personal experience to prepare you mentally on what to expect. Encourage yourself and trust that your trip will go well.
2. Keep a Journal
Keep your boarding passes, train tickets, photos, and museum tickets of the places you visit. It is a great way of reminiscing on all the good times you had on your vacation.
3. Bring your own toiletries
Pack a miniature size of your favorite body products. It really helps in the first few days when trying to find your feet and discover your new destination.
4. Learn the language and the history of your new destination
Locals appreciate it when you make an effort to learn their language. Doing so may get you unmerited favor and acceptance at your destination. It is important to always take out time to learn the basic history and culture of your travel destination as this would help you appreciate the people and respect the culture.
5. Check the currency conversion rates before you go
You don’t want to get to Seychelles only to discover 1 Seychellois rupee is 30 Naira when you budgeted for 20
Always have local cash with you. Not every place would accept credit/debit cards.
6. Check the country’s entrance/exit fees
Some countries require travelers to pay in order to enter or leave the country. These fees may not be included in the price of your airline ticket. You don’t want to get stranded, so do your research and ask questions before you go.
7. Get Guidebooks or GuideApps
Guidebooks usually made up of maps, keywords or phrases, give you enough details on certain sites and may help you save cost. Always download useful apps before you travel.
8. Get Vaccinated
The last thing you want on your trip is to catch the flu or fall sick, so before travelling, conduct research via the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website to find out health information and vaccination requirements for your destination. For optimal protection, get any required shots six weeks before departure.
9. Bring snacks
As they say, there is no place like home. Traveling abroad is fun, but eating in a foreign country can take some getting-used-to. Bring small snacks that will tide you over until you find that perfect restaurant or food store.
Have you
