Sheikh Zayed Mosque Abu Dhabi is one of the largest mosques in the world with a capacity to accommodate over 40,000 worshipers. It is one of the most visited landmarks in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and is open to the general public from Saturday-Thursday 9am to 10pm and on Fridays from 4:30pm- 10pm.
Before you visit the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, find out what you shouldn’t do;
1. Inappropriate dressing:
Men are not allowed in with shorts and women must cover their heads, legs and arms. If your outfit is considered ‘inappropriate’, you will be able to borrow an abaya (long dress) at no cost upon presentation of an id card.
2. Do not pose inappropriately for photos
Be respectful and sober in your appearance and do not take the kind of ‘happy photos’ you would normally take when excited. Otherwise, you may have a security personnel yell at you or walk you out of the premises if you fail to comply.
3. Do not wear your shoes inside the mosque
Remove your shoes before you enter the praying area. The floors are very neat and are cleaned regularly so you don’t have to worry about feeling dirty.
4. No smoking
Smoking is not allowed inside the mosque.
5. No food/drinks
You are not allowed to carry food/drinks inside the mosque. You will be directed to drop these items at the entrance during security screening.
