Factors you should consider when selecting a Hotel

There is no gainsaying that selecting a hotel can be quite a hassle. You check photos online, read reviews and ask questions from people to obtain firsthand information of what to expect. This can be quite tasking if you are not into planning.

For me, it is my favorite thing to do, hence i could spend weeks researching on hotels before i decide on the right one for me. Remember i said the right accomodation for me!”

Here are a few factors I personally consider before selecting a hotel.

Location

First, I consider my itinerary and try to select a hotel with easy access to the places i plan to visit – especially if I wish to save on transportation.

Location is very important when selecting a hotel. If you are visiting a destination for the first time on vacation and would like to explore the main attractions, select a hotel in the city center or with easy access to the city. Narrow your search to the location of your choice and begin your review from there.

When selecting a hotel, I check the photos provided by guests. I pay little attention to the photos uploaded by the hotels but give more credit to photos shared by guests. They are usually more candid.

You can also check instagram for these pictures. Simply use the # or the location tag for your search.

Read Guests Review

My preferred hotel booking site is www.booking.com  and I take time to read most reviews on the page. These reviews are usually candid and would provide an insight to what you can or cannot tolerate. Remember to leave a review of your experience on the site to help other people who may be looking for the same information.

Read the fine prints

I am quite finicky about additional fees. I would like to know upfront if wifi is free, the additional charges and taxes, if deposit on account is required at check in, hotel cancellation policies etc.

Take time to read the fine prints to avoid any surprises. You could also email the hotel directly with any enquiries that you have.

Meals

At the very basic, most hotels would offer complimentary breakfast to guests. Though this may not be a dealbreaker for me however, it would definitely be an added advantage when trying to decide between 2 options. I would readily select a hotel with a complimentary breakfast especially if I am on a slim budget.

Stick with your loyalty programs

This is a great way to maximise your stay. If you are a frequent traveler, then you should sign up for a loyalty program with any hotel chain of your choice. The advantage being that you would accumulate points for every night you stay and can redeem your points in future by applying them towards complimentary nights stay in any of the partner hotels.

There are also other additional benefits where you can apply your points, such as car rentals, cruises and other entertainments.
