Travelling to a new destination should be a fun experience. However, this is not always the case, especially when traveling to a new destination in Nigeria. It is expected that one would feel nervous, particularly in situations where they do not know anyone at the desired destination.
Here are seven (7) tips to keep in mind when travelling to a new destination in Nigeria.
1. GET A MOBILITY APP ACCOUNT.
Before you get to the location, find out the mobility app that works there, download it, and fund it where necessary. There are apps such as Uber, Opay, Bolt, Gokada, etc. These apps are ideal for moving around and are more affordable than the conventional means of transportation.
Imagine that you are in a city and you need to move to a particular place but you don’t know your current location, with these apps you can input your destination and a rider would contact you within a few minutes, pick you up and drop you at your destination.
2. HAVE SOME CASH WITH YOU
You may not fancy the idea of carrying cash around but chances are that you may not find any bank within reach when you need to withdraw money, and even if you do, you may have security concerns. Therefore withdraw adequate cash in advance when travelling to a new destination in Nigeria.
3. RECHARGE YOUR PHONE FOR CALLS AND DATA
We don’t need to stress how important this is. In addition, reserve enough ‘phone battery life’ to contact your hotel or call a friend if you need help finding your way.
4. GET A PROPER DESCRIPTION OF YOUR FINAL DESTINATION
Get specific details of the address where you are heading to. Ensure you know the house number, the neighborhood, and the area. You can download and use Google Maps to find your way.
5. BE VIGILANT
As a first-timer, you have to be vigilant and practice common sense at all times. Trust your instincts.
6. HAVE A BACKUP PLAN
If the plan is to stay with someone at the new destination, plan for the unknown. Have sufficient cash with you to check into a hotel if you cannot locate the place or contact another host in advance in case events don’t unveil as you envisage. Consider your safety at all times.
7. BE COURAGEOUS
Travelling requires courage. According to Paulo Coelho, “Travel is never a matter of money but of courage. I spent a large part of my youth traveling the world as a hippie. And what money did I have then? None. I barely had enough to pay for my fare. But I still consider those to have been the best years of my youth. The great lessons I learned have been precisely those that my journeys had taught me.”
Now, do you have the courage to live your travel dreams? If it’s important you will find a way, if not, you will find an excuse.
